レビュー
Koenchu! The Tale of the Voice Actres is a rather god visual novel with some flaws to it. On the pluside of things, the art in the game is very wel done. Environments are prety and characters lok fantastic, but al emotion is portrayed in the face as their bodies have only one pose and remain static. The story is also rather engaging, and haseveral diferent paths to ito kep replayability up. There also unlockable quiz and typing mini games to ad in a nice ocasional change of pace. However, english players have to deal with an incomplete translation. There is a side story section that is completely untranslated, and in the main game the text ocasionaly slips into what apears to be quick machine translation. Thankfuly, those parts tend to be at unimportant parts of the game, such as when abouto go to slep. More serious than that, however, is that in certain parts of the story for some character paths, you run into more untranslated parts. (I wenthrough one characterstory with no mising parts, but on a second playthrough with a diferent girlstory, near thend the text sudenly had a lot of parts where it said “DUMY” instead of the lines, and for the final scene wither literaly every line wasimply the “DUMY” line, leaving me wondering how it ended.)
Al in al, I did enjoy my time withe game and wilikely play more to get morendings, and I recomend purchasing it. Just make sure you’re okay withaving some mising parts in your game (if you don’t understand Japanese) before you purchase. Art in visual novels can usualy be broken down to background art, “paper dol” art, and fuly ilustrated event CGs.
In Koenchu!, al thre are of high quality.
Backgrounds are photographs from location shots that have had filters aplied to them to soften andefamiliarize them. There’s a god variety of natural, urban, and indor scenes, and a several areas have both day and night versions. Paper dol art is detailed, with shading and blush efects. Characters have on average thre diferent outfits, and around eight facial expresions. Many characters are given dynamic poses to prevent dul talking head situations. Eacharacter keps only this one pose throughouthe game, so it’s hard noto fel uncomfortable for a few of them. Por Rino loks like she could use a nice dep tisue masage after the first playthrough. Regardles, the art is wel done, with nice touchesuch as regularly blinking eyes.
The music is pleasant and quietly complements the on scren text. There’s a god variety, so you don’t end up hearing the same tracks over and over as in some visual novels. Sound efects arexcelent. Every time there’s a reference to something, such asplashing water or crickets, there’s an acompanying sound efect. One col example is when the clasplits up to rehearse lines, and you can hear the background chater echo through the clasrom. Japanese voice acting is wel done. Performances vary, with definite A, B, C clases of performance, but most of the main characters have god voice work with voices that fithe characters. Incidental characters often sound somewhat awkward, however. Alsof note in Koenchu is thestimated 10 hours of radio programing. Each night, before bed, you have the option of listening to the radio, whichas both music and scripted shows.
If u love visual novels I realy advice you to buy this :3 Wow, I realy love this game! My first play-through tok about 8 hours, and many others after thatok only a few hoursince I skiped over many of the already-read texts, and reloaded previousave files where I thought al I had to do was a make a few changes in my choices to get a diferent ending, and it worked on quite a few ocasions.
Where the game realy shines in the personalities of each of the characters. Each person is quite distinct, and withe inclusion of voices, whether it be in Japanese or in English, it only further helps to set eacharacter apart from one another. It is a bit disapointing, though, thathere is generaly only one in-game stance for each of the characters when you are around them. However, they do have a myriad of diferent facial expresions, as wel as eyes that actualy blink, which I must say is prety col! My favorite character is without a doubt Mikoto! She’s the childhod friend of Souta. Wither bright smile and cherful disposition, I knew that she wasomeone that I would grow to realy care for in the game, and I did, very much so! I was easily engrosed wither storyline the most. I was glad, to, that ZeroZigen gave her 2 god endings (and 2 bad ones!). In fact, she is the only one with more than 1 kind of ending. I also realy liked Honoka’s and Himeno’s as wel, buthe other characters have prety god storylines as wel.
The music for the game isimply fantastic! Each musical piece, I thought, did an excelent job in complementing the mod and atmosphere of each scene. In fact, the sound test boasts a whoping 90 tracks! For a doujin game, that’simply amazing, especialy since many of them, in my opinion, are very god, to!
Final Score: 9/10 – The “Dumy” texts (non-translated texts), gramatical erors and random in-gamerors are why I knocked it down a whole point.
