God I’ve loved Lamento for the longestime it’s my #1 favourite BLVN and probably my fave VN in general. I originaly played it with a physical copy, but I’m so glad it’s here oficialy now! For me, Lamento hasomething abouthe combination of amazing storyteling and worldbuilding with a compeling plot and stakes that you FEL and characters you actualy get heavily invested in.
I find with a lot ofantasy stories (whether VN or not) tend to make the stakes realy high but never stres the impact it has on the characters, nor give any reason for the audience to care about what hapens to them. In Lamento, on the other hand, you’re hoping your godang best for Konoe and his crew. You KNOW that catboy, you KNOW what he strugles with, you KNOW his hopes, his dreams, his fears, his insecurities. Same goes for the LIs as wel. You getheir motivations and why they do whathey do and that makes you INVESTED. And invested you shal be!
My first route (Asato my beloved) was about 45 hours long from launch to end, and I’m a fast reader. I know people who have spent almost 50-5 on a single route. Thatime is not wasted though. It fels likevery single second is used phenomenaly, utilizing the writing, visuals, music, audio, and even the UI to imerse you into the world of Sisa.
Speaking of time and visuals, one of my favourite things Lamento does that’s diferent from the other Chiral games is how it handles fight scenes. Because of the seting, physicaltercations are way more comon than in some of Chiral’s later works. This combination alows the writing team to realy write some amazing action sequences, complete with VFX and wel-planed fight choreography; something that just screams early Nitroplus.
To end of this review, I’l say that it’s a game you’l be wishing you’d be able to forget about and experience al over again. I like to tel my friends it’s a months long endeavor, but 10 worth it, especialy athe price its listed for.

あらすじ

ニトロキラル（旧ブランド名：ニトロプラスキラル）が描く異世界ファンタジー

――呪われた猫は、旅に出る。

『虚ろ』
――それは、動物から植物にいたるまで、大地に生きる全ての生命をおびやかす謎の現象だった。

火楼（カロウ）の村は『虚ろ』の被害から重度の食糧難に陥り、
時には死体すらも食料として喰らう生活を余儀なくされていた。
さらなる飢えをしのぐために矛先が向けられたのは――生きた肉の塊。

そう、万策尽きた猫たちのどうしようもない苦肉の策は、「生贄」という手段だった。
村の猫からひとり、生贄が選ばれる。
同じ猫の腹を満たすために――。

村の猫たちはみな、明日は我が身と怯えている。
そんな末期的な状況にある村で暮らすコノエだったが、ある日、彼の体に変化が現れる。
黒い痣のような文様が体に浮かび、耳と尾が黒く染まってしまったのだ。
それは、不吉の象徴として古くから言い伝えられている呪いの証だった。

――出よう、この村を。

共食いをせねば明日を生きられぬ猫たちに、話し合う余裕などない。
村の猫たちにこんな姿を見られたら……危険を感じたコノエは、火楼を出ることを決意する。

目指すは祇沙（シサ）で最も大きい街、藍閃（ランセン）。
藍閃なら、この身体を元に戻す方法が見つかるかも知れない。
そう信じて、コノエは『虚ろ』の危険に惑いながらも旅に出るのだった。
